KIDS from Chernobyl were visiting South Ayrshire last week for recuperative holiday organised by the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline Ayrshire Link.

The link which has been bringing children from Belarus and Ukraine on recuperative holidays since 2001, has brought kids over for a four-week stay with local families in South Ayrshire.

Councillor Nan MacFarlane praised the incentive ran by Chairman Michael Lafferty. She said: “It has been fantastic for these children to come to Scotland and more specifically South Ayrshire. Charities are usually limited to visas so to get 12-15 kids over has been fantastic.

“The trip is excellent as the kids can visit the beautiful sights of South Ayrshrie while the trip lessens the harmful chemicals in their bodies from the disaster and can add two years on to their lives.

“It is fantastic the work Michael and the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline Ayrshire Link do is highly commendable.”

Michael Lafferty added his thanks to South Ayrshire Council: “We also appreciate the support of South Ayrshire Council, and local businesses who sponsor a child by paying their travel and visa expenses.”
