A MAN who threatened police officers who asked him why his eyebrows had been shaved off has been caged.

Gareth Sands, of Park Crescent Dalmellington, admitted shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and homophobic remarks on Dalmellington High Street, Ayr Police Office and the A&E department of Ayr Hospital on August 26 this year.

The 33-year-old appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week and represented himself. The court heard how members of staff, working in the pharmacy, observed the accused on the high street.

Depute Fiscal Scott Toal said: "They observed his behaviour towards members of the public who were making attempts to avoid him. He was shouting I will decide when I am leaving this f***ing village.

"He continued to shout and swear. One of the pharmacists contacted police. He called the police f***ing w***s and refused to calm down. He called them f***ing eyebrow c**k sucking crooks and told them to keep their hands off him.

"He continued to shout and swear as he was being taken to the car. He continued to shout insults in the car."

Defending himself Sands said: "I need to explain myself that I am not homophobic or racist. It is completely not in my nature to be homophobic, that is not me. I had been at a party and had my eyebrows shaved off.

"The police asked me about my eyebrows. I acted in a foul manner. I felt that they were picking on me. I will always treat the police with the respect they deserve.

"I have two children and I am a good father to them. I am not a threat to anybody. I am a former drug addict."

Sheriff Montgomery questioned: "Why were you out drinking if you are that good a father?"

Sands replied: "I accept that. I was a complete mess."
Sheriff Montgomery concluded: "With regards to your record, I fell custody is only appropriate."

He sentenced Sands to six months in prison.
