AN ESTATE in South Ayrshire has been named one of the most romantic places to stay in Europe in a new list featuring charming cottages and rural retreats.

Discussing the list, The Times newspaper said: "It’s that time of year when thoughts turn to loading up the weekend bag, hitting the road and treating the one you love.

The publication added: "Spring is made for romance so hit the internet and get somewhere booked for a short break.

"This pick of destinations spans everything from gothic lodges to bijou follies, spectacular cliffside forts to modernist Greek luxury.

"Forget traditional naff notions of rose petals on beds and bubble baths for two — these are magnificent properties that will wow you with their wonderful architecture, breathtaking views and seductive seclusion."

The South Ayrshire estate at Dunure was named one of the most romantic places to stay in the UK and Europe with The Times praising the three new log cabins constructed on site.

The newspaper said: "Three new log cabins set beside woodland on the Dunure estate and with sea views across the Firth of Clyde offer a rural escape within easy reach of Glasgow (the airport is just over an hour’s drive).

"The Ayrshire coastal path runs through the estate and guests can take the ferry to the Isle of Arran. Each of the cabins comes with an outdoor bath and fireplace — there’s no wifi and no TV. But you won’t miss it. Two nights’ self-catering for two from £360."

Mount Freedom Cabins said of the glamping spots on Facebook: "We have three cabins on the estate, the ‘Brae’, ‘Baron’ & ‘Bennan’.

It added: "All of our cabins benefit from incredible sea views" and "from the king-size bed on the mezzanine."

It also shared that guests can relax while lounging on "the leather sofa by the log burner," outdoors on the long veranda, "toasting marshmallows" or when taking "a soak in the outdoor bubble bath!"
