ONE of the UK's best-known High Street retailers is set to take over the former Wilko store in the centre of Ayr.
A planning application has been lodged for new signage on the vacant High Street premises for discount giant Poundland.
The Wilko store closed in October last year, in a major blow to Ayr's main shopping thoroughfare.
However, the building now looks set to be home to a Poundland store.
The retailer already has a store in the nearby Ayr Central shopping centre.
The 'advertisement consent' application is seeking the green light to erect “externally illuminated main fascia signage” at the former Wilko store.
The application and associated paperwork can be viewed at publicaccess.south-ayrshire.gov.uk by searching for the reference code 24/00192/ADV.
