Young entrepreneurs from Marr College are set to compete in the Young Enterprise Scotland National Finals at Hampden Park.

The Troon youngsters won the Ayrshire regional final in Kilmarnock with their enterprise, Tidal Jewels, which creates unique greeting cards.

The cards are made from glass found in local areas, contributing to cleaner and safer beaches.

In the Ayrshire final, the students competed against Prestwick Academy, Robert Burns Academy in Cumnock, Greenwood Academy in Irvine, and Stewarton Academy.

Emma Soanes, chief executive of Young Enterprise Scotland, said: “The Marr College team is an inspiration and I wish them every success in the Scottish finals later this year.

"Setting up and running their own successful company is a wonderful experience and will have given them new skills to take forward into their learning and future careers.

"So, whatever happens at Hampden Park, they are already winners.”

The Young Enterprise Scotland company programme is a scheme providing S5 and S6 students with a practical introduction to the world of work.

Students are tasked with launching their own companies and performing key tasks including developing an idea, conducting market research, creating the product or service, promoting that product and trading it.

More than 2,000 young people take part in the programme every year in Scotland.

The Ayrshire company final was sponsored by UKSE, One O One Convenience, CentreStage, DYW Ayrshire, William Duncan Accountants, Hillhouse Group, MKM Timber Kilmarnock, Rovergate Shopping Centre and IMT Aviation.

The Tidal Jewels team will now represent Ayrshire in the national finals, part of the Festival of Youth Enterprise running from May 28 to 29 at Hampden Park.
