Around 150 lobsters caught by a fisherman have been stolen from a dock.

The catch is thought to be worth around £1,300 and was taken from Methil Docks in Fife between 1am and 5am on Monday.

Police believe the lobsters were hand-picked from a container and are appealing for information.

Sergeant Craig Fyall said: "This might seem like a comical incident, but this is a fisherman's livelihood and he believes the lobsters to be worth around £1,300.

"It's likely the fish were hand-picked from the container, so it would've been noticeable if anyone left the docks with that amount of fish.

"If anyone remembers seeing anything suspicious, or has any relevant information, please contact police.

"Those with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

It is the second strange animal-related incident for police in the last week after 230 ducks were stolen in Aberdeenshire.

Officers believe they were rounded up and loaded into a vehicle such as a pick-up truck or van from a poultry farm near Laurencekirk last Friday.
