DEDICATED volunteers helped an eco-friendly charity group stage a successful clean up in Troon.

Friends of Fullarton organised the event in Fullarton Woods on March 13. In all there were 60 helpers taking part in near-perfect weather conditions.

They collected around 35 bags, plus other things like tyres, car mats, planks of wood and also numerous quantities of bagged-up dog poo and fly-tipped rubbish collected at the lane end next to Rugby Club - tied up fast food carry out bags.

Thanks goes to everyone who took part, especially the 1st Troon Girl Brigade - who turned out in great numbers with recruits working really hard. Supermarket Morrisons from the town pitched in by providing a huge supply of much-needed refreshments.

Participating Troon Primary P7 pupils also had their community environmental activity signed off for their school award.

Organisers are indebted to Lucky Balls (Lynn Ball) of Troon for their donation of biscuits and £200 to the charity and to the families and dog walkers who were at the woods to play and kindly joined in to lend a hand.

More volunteers are being sought and people interested should log onto their Facebook page.
