It was a disappointing day for the Cambusdoon XI as they fell to a heavy defeat away to Bothwell in the only game in the Western District Cricket Union Second Division to be completed.

Captain Ross Mitchell won the toss and, with the weather forecast not looking great, decided to bowl first.

The home team made a solid start, but with the introduction of Richard Borland into the attack, lost their captain, Walsh and soon after fellow opener Martin who was caught and bowled by David Baines who completed a miserly spell, conceding only 14 runs in his 10 overs.

Mitchell then shuffled his attack, which was missing his two main strike bowlers Ivan Craig and Chris Hill bringing on the young team of Woodhouse, Forsyth and Maxwell.

Each of them responded by getting wickets for their captain, including a spectacular catch by Angus Craig in deep for Maxwell’s.

With Forsyth claiming three quick wickets on his introduction and Woodhouse one, Bothwell were reeling at 104-7.

Before a stand of 55 between Jahanzeb and Eminson rescued their innings and Woodhouse bagged another two wickets as they finished their innings on 182-9.

The Cambsudoon run did not get off to the best of starts with Craig being run out in the first over and then quickly losing Henderson, Borland, and Mitchell to leave them in dire straits at 7-4.

From which they were unable to recover from as they were bowled out for 55, with only Steve Baker (23) reaching double figures.

The result sees them fall from top to third place in their division, but they are only 4 per cent behind leaders Victoria.
